How to pet-proof your home and keep everyone happy

We love our furry friends and it is no secret that they sometimes take over around the house and we let them. Not all house members feel the same about their presence however and with pet hair everywhere and slobber here and there it is quite understandable. For those that want a picture perfect life it isn’t ideal to have pets. However there are ways to make sure damage is at a minimum by taking charge of the situation and by adapting your home and making it pet-proof.  Click here for ways to bond with your pets.

A good way to keep pet hair at a minimum on your furniture is to make sure you allocate a dedicated chair where they can relax and have their snooze. Find a chair that is comfortable and one that you don’t mind being covered in pet hair. You can also add washable throws to the mix to make sure the chair doesn’t get scratched or damaged. Make sure that you allocate enough toys for playful natures and for kitty cats there should always be ample scratching space. Remember that they still have animal instinct and that they need to vent as we all do. Rats make for great pets for your little ones and with the right care and precaution it can be a minimally invasive addition to any family. If you would like to add a parrot to the family make sure that you have at least one wooden bar in his cage for chewing purposes. You really don’t want your pet bird to chew at your wooden furniture. Parrots are generally destructive so make sure you keep their nails trimmed to keep everything in safe. For our favorite furry friends, dogs make sure that you keep them well exercised to eliminate any mischievous behavior. By taking your dog for a walk on a regular basis you give him the benefit of enjoying the great outdoors and sniffing everything in his surroundings. You benefit with the extra exercise and by the time he gets home he will be more relaxed. Click here to learn more about training your dog for obedient walking. You might also want to keep your shoes and socks packed away as certain breeds of dogs enjoy using these as a chew toy.

As a proud pet owner I make sure my cat always has a clean litter box. I have noticed that if I don’t clean his litter box every day he tends to get naughty and make a mess on certain surfaces. We have to understand that pets also enjoy good hygiene so it makes sense that we do our best for them and take care of the needs they can’t take care of themselves.
